Since it's inception, the International Pizza Challenge has evolved and grown in stature and prize money. 120 pizza artisans from around the globe decended upon Las Vegas in hopes of taking home the $10,000 top prize and the title of Best Pizza in the World. It is the top pizza contest in the U.S.A. with the biggest prize money. The contest is split into two categories, traditional and non-traditional. In the traditional challenge contestants can use only two items on their pizza. In the non-traditional challenge there are no rules. Bexley Pizza Plus entered a sausage & roasted red pepper pizza in the traditonal challenge and it's Steak Portabella pizza in the non-traditional. The Steak Portabella pizza advanced to the finals and took home 4th place and a $500 prize. The panel of Italian judges were quite impressed with the pizza and complimented Mr. Rocco on his crust as well as his combination of items---cabernet white sauce, provolone/mozzarella/fontina blend of cheeses, shaved philly steak, grilled portabella mushrooms, carmelized onions, roasted red peppers, fresh basil and a balsamic drizzle.
